Personal Stuff

Hello, I'm twenty-six year old Mechanical/Biomedical Engineer from Toronto, Canada.

Intellectual Stuff

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree (BASc) from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in the faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto. I have recently finished a Master's degree in Health Science (MHSc)in Clinical (Biomedical) Engineering at University of Toronto's Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering.

In the past few years, I have been employed at many hospitals, both as a researcher and an engineering intern - Wellesley Hospital, Sunnybrook Hospital and the University Health Network in Toronto and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  At Wellesley, I did some neat research dealing with the effects of inflammatory (emulating rheumatoid) arthritis on the quality and strength of bone.  The research I performed for my Master's degree also dealt with an issue related to rheumatoid arthritis.  For my master's thesis, I looked at the mechanical behaviour of metacarpophalangeal joint (that's in the hand) implants, using Finite Element Analysis.  My research has taken me on several speaking engagements - I have spoken at the Canadian Connective Tissue Conference, the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society and the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society meeting, which is affiliated with the Canadian Orthopaedic Association.  I have had also had two posters displayed at the Orthopedic Research Society meeting in 2000.

Stuff I like to do

I have several interests, which include sports, computers, and school. At school I'm involved in many activities. As an undergraduate, I represented the Engineering Faculty on the University's Students' Administrative Council (known as SAC) for four years and in my first year of graduate school represented the graduate students in my department on the Graduate Student's Union.  This year, I am a representative of all graduate students in engineering and other physical sciences on the University's School of Graduate Studies.  I have also, in the past, worked on the executive board of the Engineering Society, the backbone of spirit in the Engineering faculty. I am also a member of the Jewish Students Union, the ex-Drum Major of the Lady Godiva Memorial Band, and a member of the Engineering hockey team.

Also, I have helped my father create his website.  To see it, go to eksteinassociates.com.  Let me know what you think.

Our family website is at Ekstein.ca. You can also check out these other websites that I have helped build - Jewish Toronto Directory, Toronto Club Listings, Computer Store Directory, Toronto Bar Directory, Ekamtech (my company), Tasteful Accents (my sister's jewellery company, Big Celebrity Directory, Big Musician Directory, Big Insurance Directory and Glam Couture - the fashion directory.

My Trips

In the summer of 1999, I headed to Europe, with my friend Raven.  Of course, as my friends had told me, it was a blast. For my planning, I consulted my Lonely Planet guide to Western Europe, but I found that my friend, Tony Ruberto's Travel Website , was particularly helpful. Izon is also a good site.

I have traveled alot in the past few years, and eventually, I hope to post pictures of all my traveling experience. When I get a chance, I will be able to work on my site some more and get more pictures up.  I do have my pictures from Israel on my site.  My other trips include my Europe trip, in the summer of 1999, Miami with my parents in December 1998, Acapulco with my buddy Mike in February 1997, Cuba with Mike and Arie in December 1997 and a road trip with Andy, Savio and Thadd to Philadelphia and Atlantic city in summer 1997. Yes, I've traveled alot, and I'd like to put up my pictures eventually to prove it!

Oh yeah. Here are some pictures of my (ex-)girlfriend and me (I haven't had time to reformat this site...give me a break).

You are visitor number . Pretty pathetic, huh?
